My DIY Tiny Home
This is a tiny home building option for someone who wants to build their own tiny home, but needs guidance and access to tools. In this arrangement you hire us to build your tiny home, while you assist in the construction. We will lead the build, but you will be there to learn every step along the way. You do not need prior experience, only a passion to be intimately involved in the creation of your home.
As part of this program you will have the option of staying onsite in our micro tiny home Gypsy Tug.
Tiny Home Tiny Internship
In learning to build I often found it hard to block out the time required to complete a full internship. As a response to that difficulty I started this tiny internship program which only requires a one week commitment with the option to arrange additional weeks. Despite the short duration, this is the most involved way to jump into working with me. In exchange for 30 hours of work a week in the Carpenter Owl studio you will be provided private tiny home lodging, board, and education.
I host natural building apprenticeships for college credit through Indiana University's School of Public and Environmental Affairs and Arts & Sciences Career Services. If you need an apprenticeship that fulfills a requirement or provides college credit with your school please write an introductory email to me and the coordinator for your program. Apprenticeships are designed to fit into a life with other commitments and thus only require one six hour shift per week, though more intensive apprenticeships can be arranged.
Classroom and Public Library Visits
During the 2014-2015 school year I hosted and visited the junior high students of Bloomington, Indiana's Project School. We met to discussion, share, and dream as their class studied tiny homes and community organization. Over the course of these visits I became inspired to connect with more folks who are interested in learning alternative ways of living. If you have a classroom or library and would like to have me visit, please email or call me. When nearby I can often make in person visits for little to no cost. If far away or you want me to bring one of my tiny homes, then we would need to work out expenses and time.
